Ansys’ industrial business is centered on state owned enterprises and large corporates
Major areas of expertise and involvement include:
Business information systems
Business information systems utilise information sources and communication channels for business operations. These include internet, e-mail, LAN and WAN systems, landline and GSM based communications and radio communications systems.
Ansys provides consultation in the implementation of these information systems and is involved in the design and implementation of applications in improving the efficiency of business operations. Ansys has been involved in information systems projects for major South African clients, including Transnet, ESKOM and a number of manufacturing organisations.
Health / Condition monitoring systems
Health/ Condition monitoring systems utilise information from sensor systems to determine the well-being of entities such as road vehicles, aircraft, rail vehicles, buildings and production process plants. Where problems are exposed, emergency or routine corrective action is initiated.
Maintenance Management Systems
AMMS provides a maintenance management solution to ensure a structured and consistent maintenance process on operational infrastructure, in order to improve return on investment.
Introduction
Ansys provides the Ansys Maintenance Management Service (AMMS) to industry to combat the decay in infrastructure resulting from inefficient maintenance practices. The objective of AMMS is to improve the operational readiness of the infrastructure, resulting in better productivity and increased profits.
Maintenance managers in industry gain an engineering-backed maintenance management service with reporting and problem management, including the monitoring of the repair process and the acceptance by the client’s quality managers.
AMMS not only provides an improvement in the maintenance of the infrastructure, but also addresses safety and health issues, legal, insurance and audit information that can be integrated with the client’s existing ERP and business systems.
The field maintenance process enforces performance of maintenance at the correct location and according to the prescribed maintenance procedures. Maintenance results obtained from the field maintenance process are interpreted and stored on redundant databases.
AMMS provides the client with a new approach to outsource maintenance management in a time where skilled maintenance resources are scarce.
Electronic Identification Systems
Electronic Identification (EID) systems are used to identify and track moving assets, such as vehicles, containers, raw materials and items in production or assembly.
Identification information is sent to a computer system that keeps track of items, locations and individual configuration or build status, if applicable. Applications of this technology include a wide variety of security, process and logistics optimisation systems, such as access control, asset management, production control, just-in-time component supply, delivery vehicle route optimisation and enhanced customer information systems.
Ansys has executed many projects incorporating EID, including access control systems, asset tracking systems, ladle identification in aluminium smeltering, coin carrier identification in coin minting and rail-torpedo tracking in steel production.
Process monitoring and Control systems
Process monitoring and Control systems are used to optimise the efficiency of production processes. Process related data is collected from specialised sensor systems and used in direct and supervisory process control. Process information is also used in detection and countering of hazardous conditions, operator information systems and management information systems.
Ansys usually designs and implements process monitoring and control systems using standard PLCs and SCADA systems. Specific experience has been gained using Siemens PLCs and Wonderware and DMACS SCADA software. Ansys has been involved in a number of projects in this area, including instrumentation monitoring systems in power generation, equipment monitoring in pulp and paper production, environmental monitoring in mining operations and personnel and equipment surveillance in mining operations.
